Staining for the detection of cryptosporidium oocysts
Description
Modified Ziehl-neelsen staining according to Nenriksen and Poblenz
Amongst the numerous possible modified Ziehl-Neelsen stainings, the one according to Henriksen and Pohlenz has become the reference method for the detection of Cryptosporidium oocysts on stool smears. It stains around 60% of the oocysts present in a microscopic sample. This technique is also very useful for the detection of Cyclospora oocysts, coccidia being able to be parasitical upon man.
