Case Conclusion

CBC and Differential: Leukocytosis, anemia, and thrombocytopenia. Increased absolute lymphocyte count due to a population of abnormal lymphocytes, most with mature chromatin, irregularly shaped nuclei, and high N:C ratios suggestive of a mature lymphoid neoplasm. Additional diagnostic tests identified mantle cell lymphoma; neutrophilic left shift, Pelger-Huet neutrophils, NRBCs at various stages of maturation and NRBCs with dysplastic features. Numerous smudge cells possibly originating from abnormal lymphocytes.

RBC morphology: anisocytosis, polychromasia, numerous echinocytes, and RBCs containing distinct pappenheimer bodies.

Global Test 2024:2 Results Webinar

Webinar objectives

  • Compare participant and examiner results
  • Discuss clinical and laboratory findings and diagnostic criteria of leukemic mantle cell lymphoma
  • Compare morphology of abnormal lymphocytes with morphological subtypes in mantle cell lymphoma
  • Correlate clinical and laboratory findings with pathological mechanisms
  • Discuss the possibility of concurrent myelodysplastic neoplasm (MDS) in this patient
  • Review RBC morphology and potential explanations for echinocytes and pappenheimer bodies
