Unilabs streamlines laboratory operations with analyzers from CellaVision

CellaVision, which develops and sells products for routine analysis of blood and other body fluids in health care, has signed a contract with the diagnostics company Unilabs for installation of CellaVision's solution for automation of manual blood analysis at laboratories in Stockholm and Skövde, Sweden. The order consists of two analyzers and CellaVision's remote review software for assessing patients' cell images. The solution has been in place since earlier this year at Unilab's medical services laboratory in Eskilstuna.

"The order confirms our ability to solve competency problems that exist in both private and public sector laboratory operations and we are very proud of gaining the trust of such a strong quality and service-minded customer as Unilabs. We hope that more units within Unilabs in Europe will see the advantages of the solution and want to analyze samples digitally using our systems", says Yvonne Mårtensson, CellaVision's CEO.

The Unilabs laboratory chain has decided to digitalize its clinical chemistry analyses using CellaVision's analyzer CellaVision® DM1200 and the CellaVision® Remote Review Software for assessing samples remotely. The analyzer has been used since spring 2010 by Unilabs in Eskilstuna, where the solution has performed well in streamlining the workflow at the laboratory and preventing the competence shortage that the large-scale retirement of bioanalysts in coming years is expected to create.

"With CellaVision's products we will be more competitive in tenders for services in laboratory medicine", says Lennart Nordström, Medical Director, Clinical Chemistry at Unilabs. "The solution makes it possible to consult colleagues at other laboratories faster and discuss cell images and results of analyses. In that way we can give even better service to our customers."

The CellaVision DM1200 is CellaVision's newest analyzer and is intended for clinical laboratories with mid-sized sample volumes of blood and other body fluids. The analyzer replaces a manual microscope and offers health care services a faster and more standardized way of counting and grouping cells, which is a common analysis when diagnosing a number of illnesses, such as infections, inflammations, anemia and serious cancers. The analyzer has been available for about a year in CellaVision's main markets, Europe and North America, where the product meets with great interest among hospital laboratories and commercial laboratories due to its sound qualities for timesaving, standardization and exchange of information within and between units.
