CellaVision introduces an iPhone/iPod Touch Application for hematology competency
CellaVision, which develops and sells products for the routine analysis of blood and body fluids, today introduces a new Application for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch devices to compliment its digital cell morphology portfolio. The Application, CellAtlas® is an educational tool to assist in the recognition and classification of blood cells, making it easier for university students and clinical laboratory personnel to learn the basics of cell morphology. Availability at the iTunes AppStore starts today January 25, 2011.
"It is a pleasure to be able to present the clinical laboratory market with a CellaVision iPhone Application. CellAtlas is an excellent educational tool and reference library for laboratory personnel and students. By making the tool easily accessible we hope to get more laboratories interested in our digital solution for cell analysis", says Yvonne Mårtensson, CellaVision's CEO.
CellAtlas contains mini lectures in English written by experts in hematology. The Application gives the Technologist access to high resolution classified cell images complemented by a written description. The CellAtlas reference library provides laboratory personnel with images that can quickly and easily be compared to blood or body fluid cells they are viewing at a microscope.
The Application includes a game, CellQuiz, a fun and efficient way to test the user's knowledge in cell morphology. Additionally, the user will have access to links and media which will show how CellaVision systems and software can replace manual microscopy in the hematology lab by saving labor and improving quality.
CellAtlas was originally developed in 2000 as an interactive educational tool on the Internet (www.cellatlas.com) and since then has been frequently used in the training of medical technologists, mostly in Sweden.
CellaVision is currently investigating adapting CellAtlas to other mobile platforms. CellAtlas will be introduced at the iTunes App Store January 25, 2011 in the Medical and Education categories.
