Pilar Aguilera, Software Engineer in the Innovation Department

“I value a workplace where honesty, respect and cooperation are in focus. Where there is a sense of “us” rather than “you and me”.”

Q: Can you briefly introduce yourself and a bit about your background?

I was born and raised in Lund, and like many others from the city, I knew early on that studying at Lund University was the natural choice for me. As a child, I thought I would become a doctor, but during my last year of high school I realized that the demanding hours of a medical career weren’t for me. I was still fascinated by medicine, though, and a teacher suggested I explore engineering within a medical or chemical field.

That advice led me to study Biotechnical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering (LTH), where I discovered a passion for engineering and processes, things I had never imagined working with before. Over time, my focus shifted toward food technology, but I realized that the aspects I enjoyed most were those connected to health and quality processes, guiding me toward a career in MedTech and regulatory affairs.

Q: Was there a pivotal moment or influence in your life (personal or professional) that shaped your professional path?

For me, the path has never been about one pivotal moment, but rather a snowball effect of curiosity, learning, and problem-solving. My love for tackling new challenges has naturally led me to explore roles and responsibilities I hadn’t even considered while studying. Early in my career, I worked as a consultant in both pharma and MedTech, and it quickly became clear that MedTech, particularly quality and regulatory compliance, was where my interests truly aligned.

Q: What was it about CellaVision that made you decided to join?

I was drawn to CellaVision by both its innovative technologies and its culture. From my first day, I felt welcomed and supported. The sense of community, the collaborative spirit, and the way colleagues genuinely care for one another made it clear that this was a place I wanted to grow professionally. Today, I continue to be motivated by contributing to projects that improve healthcare and make a tangible difference for patients and professionals alike.

Q: How would you describe your current role and main responsibilities?

In my current role in Regulatory Affairs, I lead the vigilance work within CellaVision, coordinating the reporting of adverse events, incidents, and necessary product corrections. I also manage CE-marking activities for HemaPrep and support premarket submissions for the Bone Marrow Aspirate Application to the FDA. The dedication, teamwork, and focus I have witnessed within the company reinforce why our work in QA and RA is so critical and meaningful.

Q: How have you developed, professionally or personally, since you started working at CellaVision?

Since joining CellaVision, I’ve grown significantly by taking on responsibilities beyond my initial role. The trust and confidence my manager has shown me allowed me to step into complex regulatory areas and expand my expertise. The flat structure and supportive environment at CellaVision encourage learning through collaboration, and the opportunity to work with senior colleagues and gain hands-on experience has been invaluable in my professional development.

Q: What hobbies, interests or passions do you have that shape who you are?

Outside of work, my main passions revolve around food, books, and family. With a two-year-old at home, most of my energy goes into spending quality time with family and friends, though I still enjoy cooking and baking whenever I can. I’m naturally curious and love discussing almost anything, which keeps me engaged in everyday life. Above all, my family is my greatest motivation, inspiring me to balance growth, learning, and presence in both my personal and professional life.
