Alex Molinier

“In the workplace, a strong sense of ownership and accountability is very important to me, and I value environments where people are empowered to think long term, take responsibility, and challenge the status quo.”

Q: Can you briefly introduce yourself and a bit about your background?

My background is in international business development within the in-vitro diagnostics industry, where I have spent most of my career building and scaling businesses across diverse markets, cycles, and channels. I currently live in Singapore and hold two complementary commercial roles within CellaVision: Director for Asia-Pacific and Head of Commercial Expansion for our Reagents portfolio.

I always wanted to work in a global environment, but in an industry with a strong impact on people’s lives. Healthcare and the medical industry therefore became my natural choice to start my career. Early in my professional journey, I was fortunate to work with people who emphasized long-term vision and who trusted me with a high level of autonomy. That experience shaped the way I think and work today – encouraging independent thinking, accountability, and confidence in finding solutions.

Q: What motivates you most in your daily work – both on a professional and personal level?

I am motivated by knowing that my actions or ideas can have a real impact and create long-term value for both partners and customers. I also greatly enjoy interactions with colleagues and partners. The level of communication and collaboration – both internally and externally – is kind, ethical, and focused on moving things forward. It is rarely political, which makes daily work life very enjoyable.

CellaVision has given me the opportunity to take initiative across different roles and projects, with a high level of autonomy. Over time, this has shaped how I work and lead. Where I previously focused more on quick execution and immediate results, I now spend significantly more time collecting inputs, listening carefully, and framing problems properly before acting. This shift has helped me drive more sustainable outcomes and better alignment across teams.

Q: How would you describe your current role and main responsibilities?

In my current role, I focus on regional leadership in Asia-Pacific while also supporting the global commercial expansion of our reagents business. This involves understanding where opportunities and challenges lie across the region and ensuring strong alignment with our distribution partners. It often means asking many questions, observing execution closely, and identifying where improvements can create long-term value.

Over the past few years, I have also worked to strengthen relationships with partners in the region. What were once mainly transactional interactions have increasingly developed into more strategic collaborations. Through continuous dialogue and stronger alignment, markets across Asia that were previously closed to our Reagents portfolio are now beginning to distribute it – opening meaningful opportunities for partners, customers, and CellaVision alike.

Q: What is your experience from teamwork – what role do collaboration and community play for you?

Working in a multicultural company like CellaVision is something I find particularly rewarding. Different perspectives often challenge assumptions and broaden the range of possible solutions. For me, teamwork is also a way to stay humble and keep learning from others.

Q: What hobbies, interests or passions do you have that shape who you are?

When not working or travelling, I play squash in the Singapore league and try to get on the court two or three times per week. I also enjoy learning about wine, particularly Pinot Noir and Grenache, and staying on top of geopolitics and finance. Another small personal ritual is my morning routine. I wake up quite early and read the full daily newspaper on my iPad while drinking carefully prepared drip coffee. I have barely missed a day in the past fifteen years, even when travelling. It has become my personal definition of luxury.
