Lugol liquid is used in Gram-Hücker and Gram-Nicolle stainings for the detection of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Lugol Solution forms a complex with Carbolic Gentian Violet or Crystal Violet Oxalate that stains Gram-positive bacteria violet.
